The Power of Writing

Watch what you say!”, “The tongue is powerful!”, “watch what you wish for!” etc., etc. An endless list of sayings that concern the tongue exist within our dictionaries. And the list goes on and on…

Majority of the time when we speak, these are words on everyone’s lips and on everyone’s minds. For a long time (probably since Adam & Eve), we have known the tongue to be a soft but powerful and deadly organ capable of destroying the mightiest of men.  It is said that the tongue can easily lead to your assent in society, yet with the same guile swiftly tackle you down rougher than a rugby or hockey player.  End result?? Many people think twice before opening their mouths (at least when in a rational state of mind).

So why is the tongue so powerful?? The answer is simple and well-known: because what we speak may/will come to pass. So if we speak well of ourselves and others, good things will befall us and whomever we speak well of. Vice versa is also true. What we speak is also what drives us; it is what lies on our thoughts and our hearts. Like an outlet of sorts.

So engrossed are we in this that we may not have stopped to ask ourselves: “Is the tongue the only powerful organ in our bodily arsenal?” I know for sure not many of you have asked themselves this, some may even think of it as a stupid question. I have thought about it, and something immediately popped up into my mind: the hands!!

The hands you ask?? Yes!! Put simply, what we write is what we think, and what we say is what we think. This can be summed up logically as:
Your thoughts are expressed in --> what you write and --> what you speak

Indeed when your mentor or teacher told you to write down your goals in life; who you wanted to be and what you wanted to accomplish, most of us simply brushed the thought aside.  “How could some dry ink on a piece of paper help me?” was the common question.  Indeed in a physical point of view it doesn’t make sense. But what about the mental? The psychological? Even the spiritual? Did we put these into consideration?

When you write down a sentence on a piece of paper, it has just as much power as speaking out the same words. Majority of us just don’t do it; maybe because we’re too lazy, or because we feel it’s stupid, or maybe even because it’s a waste of time and resources!! Writing words down is the first step in actualizing that thought, dream or goal(s) that you have. It turns one from a dreamer to a doer, quite literally!! When you write an aspiration down, you are subconsciously telling yourself that you are ready to turn it into a reality, no matter the hurdles that may come.

In the same way a negatively spoken word is bad, the same goes for a negatively written word. Words written down to ridicule, scorn or look down upon others may eventually come round to bite you!

So let’s start practicing the art of writing. And not just writing, but writing in the positive. A positive writer is a positive thinker!

Life's a Journey

The age is one year old, all but still an infant,
The legs start to unfold, mum has to see a stunt,
Slowly they rise so bold, walking is being learnt,
Step by step I was told, I walked like a cunt,
Even now that I'm old, my memory is still blunt.

Fast-forward a bit to six, still a bustling young kid.
Good and bad I still mix, innocence was a tight lid,
I learn the right picks, good was the right feed,
No mercy while in a fix, innocence no longer a need,

Teenage hood came by quick, hormones were raging mad,
Did things that were sick, to me they weren't too bad,
Often got one two a stick, a worldly care I never had,
Danger I escaped by a nick, to my rescue was my dad,
It ended like a movie flick, ending not really that sad.

Maturity has now come by, a future is all I think about,
How the days seem to fly, work and education I scout,
Though the present is dry, soon I will be able to shout,
Raise my hands to the sky, how life from thin was stout,

Future I will achieve much, that I am positively sure,
Greatness will be a perch, doing things with grandeur,
Gear five with the clutch, having a positive allure,
The end is crispy crunch, though not all will be pure,
Human I still am as such, but God will be my cure.

How do you define your life???....

A Prayer to You

You are the potter, I am a mound of clay,
Mix me with water, mold me as You may,
Even when gets hotter, You always save the day,
Let me not totter, please show me the way.

You are the carpenter, I am the piece of wood,
Fill me with laughter, fill me with only good,
Shape me into a tool, one to spread your word,
To transform a lost fool, into a beautiful bird.

You are the shepherd, I am but just a sheep,
Guide me 4m the leopard, make me not weep,
Show me the path to follow, lead me to the water of life,
The holy spirit I shall borrow, to end in me all the strife.

You are the tailor, I am a piece of cloth,
Sew me into a sailor, one who sails over the broth,
Mend any torn garment shred, return it to one whole piece,
Let in me the Holy Spirit imbed, and watch me like a police.

You have brought me this far, and even further you shall take me,
Protect me from the huge war, provide a spear & armor to shield thee,
Walk with me on my journey, raise me up like a bread of leaven,
May I eventually win the tourney, and come to join you in heaven.

Lifesteps

A drop splashes to the table, salty it is when tasted,
A teardrop tells the whole fable, a heart has been wasted,
The guy has 'liar' as his label, the game has been arrested,
The chic's mind is now unstable, depression has manifested,
Question is will she be able, to get over being molested?

Sweat drips from his face, the ground becomes saltily wet,
His team has lost by a brace, many a people have lost a bet,
The mind takes a fall from grace, the scoreline can't be reset,
It's the end of a soccer race, the trophy the team can't get,
Question is will they place, their hopes on the season next?

The answer is that this is life, it is full of good and bad,
The truth may be full of strife, maybe that's a bit sad,
Learn to take it as a wife, care for it even if you aint glad,
The care will act as a knife, to cut the evil that will be in clad.
Shape your own destiny!!!!....

Love

"Knock knock", my knuckles bang against your door,
And I still knock, waiting to hear the knob turn,
Eager to see if you are woman or man,
Curiosity standing beside me with a loaded gun,
Waiting to blow me away...

What do you look like, Are you who they say you are,
Those are the questions I aks myself from afar.
Is your smile so bright, will it blind my sight?
Hmm, if only the answer were as clear as light.

What makes you tick? to me it seems like magic,
How the strong transit from weak, in maths there lies no logic,
If only I knew half of it, maybe I could get to understand,
Why they adore you as such, under the spell of your magic wand.

Through the time and ages, you have existed through centuries,
Almost like the bible pages, you have erased many worries,
Untouched yet strongly felt, unseen yet widely known by many,
By you peoples' hearts melt, by you they remove more than a penny.

Yet I long to meet you, long to feel your presence,
Give my soul a redo, strike me at my very essence,
[Get to feel the pleasure, that I see others feel,
That has no real measure, only sized by their will.]

Maybe if you were to be in me, and I in you,
I would find someone able to call me 'boo',
Somewhere deep in me I know, that the time shall come,
When I'll have someone to love me as much as my mum.

And I will celebrate you, move towards my one true meaning,
As we merge to one fro two, till it looks like I'm dreaming,
Then I shall know you are real, know beyond absolute measure,
And I will teach others to feel, what you give: absolute pleasure.

The Odd Night

On the lonely chair I sit, while my drunk friends stand,
I have just taken a hit, felt more like a fist than a hand,
The fire in me that was lit, is now gone similar to the sand,
All my friends can do is talk shit, making more noise than a band,
Feel like going into a fit, but it still all feels a way much rotund.

I decide to watch a game of ball, so as to calm my low esteem,
Am thinking 'To hell with this all', evil thoughts reign supreme,
Maybe if i get to see a goal, I'll get to blow off some of my steam,
Conclusion is to stay standing tall, my pride and ego I shall redeem.

My thoughts race so far and wide, if only I could reverse time,
To no one I think I will ever confide, I could bet on it with a dime,
On the reality horse I shall ride, stare upon love like as if it were lime,
In my mind I will forever reside, let my heart out only with rhyme...

But all that I shall leave as the past, unto a better future I stare,
Getting stronger and better is amust, my life will become a funfare,
Unto mother nature I place my trust, will treat myself with more care,
When I finally return to earth's crust, I will say twas all good and fair.

Of Fate & Destiny, & how we shape our Course

Destiny or fate is a predetermined course of events. It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a fixed natural order to the cosmos– Source, Wikipedia

We all try to live life on the positive, live with big dreams and high aspirations. We pray for the  light to shine so brightly on us that we will succeed in almost anything we undertake, yet we know we will fail or be rejected in majority of what we do (or they to do), and still push on despite all shortcomings. That is the ideal view of ‘perseverance’, but unfortunately most of us do not have this instilled in us and tend to take shortcuts. So where does fate/destiny come in?? While majority do know that we will not succeed in everything we do, we tend to be too hopeful. There are some people that have tried and tried, time and time again, to succeed in whatever they attempt but to no avail. For instance, someone may decide to open up a business, it does well for the first few months then flops out of the blue. A deal that looked promising at one time may fall apart suddenly. As a result the affected party may say “I am cursed”, or “This is fate, I wasn’t meant to succeed in this area”. This is a swan song that many of us sing a lot of the time, whenever something goes wrong, the automatic response is: “Fate caused this”, and we basically give up o whatever we were pursuing.

Think about it; is it really fate?? Did fate decide that you are the one who will never succeed in life? Did fate decide that you will never get that job? Did fate decide? Has fate let you down that much? Well, my brothers and sisters, the simple answer is that you are the instigator of your shortcomings, you have let yourself down. “Fate”, is an excuse we give ourselves. Whenever something goes wrong, we blame it all on “fate” so as to excuse ourselves from the blame. So we let leave, abandon the cause and just slump to submission.
We need to realize that what distinguishes a successful person from a failure is the willingness to succeed no matter the weight of the obstacle. If we do not achieve our set goals due to an event, we should not give up because “I was not meant to do this”. Instead, we should formulate a new strategy to overcome our failures. An illustration is where we are walking down a path and we see a huge rock on the path, we cannot get through the rock using brute force, so we try hammering away, and the rock is too thick to break through. Should we give up and go back? Did fate decide that we meet the rock and not go through it? No. We should formulate another way to bypass this obstacle, say, go round it. What if this does not work? Well then, we can decide to go back the route and equip ourselves with the necessary artillery to go through the rock, say, come back with a bulldozer.  Those who do this will eventually realize their dreams and expectations.

To conclude, we should not let fate/destiny shape our future. Instead, we should take our future by the scruff of the neck and dictate the course we take ourselves. Remember the saying, “If you do not succeed, try and try again”. Where you fail in an attempt, find out why you failed, work on it, and come back stronger, better, and more willing to succeed.  With a positive attitude, hardwork, dedication and belief in God, there is no way that is impassable.
